The Blue Jays were aware of it as Wells signed a seven-year, $126 million deal after last season, following Wells' strong season of 2006, when he hit .303 with 32 homers and 106 RBIs. Wells has labored with his offense this year, hitting .251 with 16 homers and 79 RBIs, and a .306 on-base percentage.
