Lifetime Networks has partnered with social networking site Paltalk to become the latest media outlet to take advantage of chat technology.
Lifetime announced Thursday that it will launch weekly question and answer programs with clairvoyant Lisa Williams, whose show Life Among the Dead is in its second season. "As we've seen with our previous partnerships with CBS Radio and 1010 WINS, traditional broadcast media is embracing the ability to build community and encourage audience participation with interactive online video," said Joel Smernoff, COO and President of Paltalk, said in a prepared statement. "We look forward to bringing our unique interactive platform to Lifetime's thriving digital community, and to continuing our work with traditional broadcast outlets to drive the convergence of content and social media into a new viewing experience." Viewers will be able to ask questions and discuss topics from her television broadcast, interacting with Williams and each other through voice, text, and video technology. This is the second series to use Paltalk for interactive video that joins fans and on-air personalities. Recently, Christina Cox and Kyle Schmidt, the stars from Blood Ties drew thousands of visitors and 5,500 posts in an hour during a live chat. Last year, Williams' text chats created the most traffic Lifetimetv.com's experienced in a single hour. Dan Suratt, executive VP, Digital Media and Business Development, Lifetime Networks, said LifetimeTV.com's community consists of more than 2 million members. Paltalk itself brags more than 4 million active users and is in the middle of building an audience for its PaltalkScene product. The free software lets subscribers view live video chat rooms and dozens of regularly scheduled shows. The software's VoIP component -- called SuperIM -- allows subscribers to make video calls with up to 10 friends simultaneously.
