LOS ANGELES - The season premieres of seven Fox Broadcasting shows will be offered on Apple Inc.'s iTunes store for free in the latest example of TV networks using the Web to create interest in their shows.

Fox will post episodes this week of returning series such as "Prison Break" and "Bones," along with new shows such as "K-Ville."

The shows will be available for one week.

Other networks have made free episodes available for downloading on iTunes.

The move by Fox, which is owned by News Corp., comes after NBC Universal stopped selling shows on iTunes because of a pricing dispute with Apple. Last year, NBC used sales on iTunes to help build an audience for its hit "Heroes."

Now, the unit of General Electric Co. will offer free, advertising-supported downloads of episodes on its own service, called NBC Direct.

NBC has been the most aggressive this year in using the Web to generate interest in its fall lineup. The network's new show "Chuck," about a computer geek with spy secrets embedded in his brain, can be downloaded for free on iTunes, Yahoo and Amazon.

CBS, a unit of Viacom Inc., and The Walt Disney Co.'s ABC network allow free, ad-supported viewing online.
